Keeping the docs in business all by ourselves

{{sigh}} So last night I was running my fingers through Chloe's hair and my fingers brushed against a knot, or bump if you will, above her ear. I stopped. Felt again. Yep, a goose egg type bump. I looked down at her and said "Does this hurt?" she sweetly answered "What?" Ok. I'll take that as a no. I moved her baby fine strawberry blonde hair out of the way to get a better loook. Yikes! Sure enough there is a large lump. I can easily see it now that I know where to look. It isn't red. It isn't bruised. It doesn't seem to cause her pain. What on earth is it?

First thing this morning I called the pediatrician's office to see what they thought. First I described the lump to the receptionist who suggested I talk to a nurse. When the nurse called back I described it to her and she said she needed to confer with the pediatrician. A little while later she called back and said they thought I should probably bring Chloe in to have it looked at.

So, off to Kennebunk we go. Things went pretty smoothly. When they took her temp we found she was running a slight fever. I didn't even notice. Our pediatrician didn't have any openings today so we saw the nurse practioner, who gave it a look and decided it was a swollen lymph node, possibly infected. She measured it and it is about an inch and a half in diameter and sticks out far enough you can see a slight bump even through her hair. We go back in one week, Oct. 15, to have it looked at again. Hopefully it is gone or at least noticeably smaller by then or they may need to prescribe antibiotics. Only time will tell.

October 15 is going to be a busy day. I now have to worry about getting Chloe to the dr. at 10 am, myself to the dr at 1 pm, getting Tory and Livy picked up from school at 2:45 pm so that we can get to Portland to pick up Janette at the airport around 3:15 pm. I'm tired already.
