Thanksgiving 2010 was uneventful, as usual, in our household. We baked, we ate, we lazed about the house. We got our tree a couple of days after Thanksgiving and had a blast decorating it and the house. Part of me really enjoys seeing every ornament hung on the same 4 branches of the tree and wall decoration after wall decoration taped to the same 4 ft span of wall but part of me longs for the days when my tree looks classy and more than 4 ft of the house is decorated with past years' art projects. Mostly, I am glad of the chaos. I realize more with every passing year how quickly the girls are growing and long to keep them small and excited about the holidays forever.
Possibly the most exciting part of our holiday season was our first Christmas home in 6 years. SIX YEARS. We snuck out the morning of December 18 and surprised Mom and Dad early the morning of December 19. They weren't expecting us until at least the 20th, if not the 21st. We did the same to Andy's parents, surprising Richard at Andy's grandparents house for dinner and surprising Pam, with Kevin's help, at their house later that evening. Just when we thought we were the best surprise they all could ask for, Alex surprised everyone by getting an earlier flight in from Afghanistan and coming home a day early. I can't even remember the last time all of Andy's family was home at once. Amanda and Brandon came home with Ryker from Arkansas for Christmas, Alex from Afghanistan, and us from Maine.
We split Christmas Eve between Richard's house and Grandma McCoy's house. Unfortunately, I have no pics from the McCoy's because Andy forgot to pick the camera up when we left Richard's house and I only have cell phone pics of the girls from Christmas morning. Hopefully Mom will email me the ones she and Dad took with their camera and I can add them to the blog at a later date. Christmas Day was split with Pam and Kevin and Andy's Havens grandparents. Then the Neeley celebration was the 26th.
December 28th was Dad's 55th birthday. We celebrated by having a delicious dinner with both sets of my grandparents and eating a yummy cake I made him. It was a nice day as well.
December 29th we went with Pam and Kevin, as well as Alex and his new fiance Jenn to the KU game at Allen Fieldhouse. It was first time being in the Fieldhouse for a men's basketball game. Let me tell you, the atmosphere is completely different than for a volleyball game! The girls were completely enchanted with the atmosphere of Lawrence (calling it Jayhawk City, lol) and were in complete amazement of Allen Fieldhouse. They loved every minute of it and can't wait to go to another game.
We had a wonderful time in Kansas, meeting new family members for the first time (welcome to the family, Kevin, Brandon, Jenn, Ryker, and Ember!) and catching up with the ones we've known and loved for years!
That pretty much sums it all up. Whew! I'll try to do better at updating the blog in 2011!
