It all started about three weeks ago. Andy sent me a text that said "Do you want to go to the NH race for free?" I told him sure, as long as we could get someone to watch the kids for us for an entire day. Our good friends John and Jenn McCurry volunteered and we thought we had everything in line. The next day, however, a very disappointed Andy called me and informed me all the tickets that were being given away were gone and it wasn't going to work out. I felt pretty bad for him, knowing how excited he was about going to his first Nascar race and his chance to actually see Mark Martin in the #5 car, even if it was from far away. But, hey, whatcha going to do, right? Well, about two weeks later I was on CoastieChicks.net and saw that someone was giving away their race tickets. Apparently her husband had signed up for four, gotten them, and then found out he had duty. So they were up for grabs. I immediately told her I'd be glad to take them off her hands and she mailed them to us. I thought Andy was going to either cry or start jumping up and down when I told him we had all our ducks in a row and we were back on for a trip to Louden to the New Hampshire Motor Speedway!
Now, I admit I am not a huge Nascar fan. I will root for Mark Martin and/or Clint Bowyer whenever I do watch and I would boo if Jimmy Johnson or Kyle Bush won, but other than that, I get easily bored watching on TV every Sunday. Andy, as anyone who knows him will tell you, is very much in to the entire racing process. Qualifiying, practices, extra practices, pre-race shows, the race, post-race interviews....all very important. LOL I have to say, though, that being at a race live, seeing more than just the first two to five cars for 3 hours is way more interesting. I really enjoyed it and probably would do it all again if we ever had a chance. Most of all, I was so happy to have been able to make this happen for Andy, who was like a kid in a candy store. :)
So even though Mark Martin didn't have the best day and Jimmy Johnson won the race, we were ok with being there. We got to see Juan Pablo Montoya hit the wall right in front of us and Kyle Bush spin out right in front of us. That was pretty cool. It all was.
