The girls and I picked up and headed southwest on Feb. 12 for our visit to Kansas. The main goal of this trip, of course, was to throw Net's shower for Baby Fuzzy. The flights went pretty well (no criticism of my parenting strategies this time!) and I have to say I am completely sold on the idea of only flying Southwest Airlines now. They were wonderful--no fees for checking bags so I checked everything but my purse and the bag with the kids' coloring books and snacks in it; wonderful flight attendants; family boarding time; great snacks, of which the kids received multiples; clean, spacious aircraft....I could gush on and on. Seriously, fly Southwest.
Anyway, once we got to KS is was a whirlwind of baby shower shopping. Decorations, food fixin's, etc. We finally got it all done, however, and managed (if I do say so myself) to put on a gorgeous shower. The one downfall was a snowstorm which kept many of our RSVP'd guests from coming. However, Albert's mother and sisters made it as well as a good chunk of our Neeley/McCoy family so we had a decent showing and a good time. The cake turned out beautifully and the food looked pretty (and more importantly, tasted yummy!) and I think Janette made out pretty well!
After the shower the week slowed a bit and we were able to spend quite a bit of time with Janette, who had taken some vacation time to hang with us, as well as the rest of the family. It was a very nice visit.
Flying home turned out to have its own set of challenges. Southwest was just as wonderful flying back to Manchester as they were flying to KC, but Chloe was sick. The night before we flew home she puked all over the floor in front of Janette's bathroom. By the time her clothes were washed and dried and we were driving back down to Burlingame to Mom and Dad's, she was running a fever. I got very little sleep that night so when I woke up at 3 am I decided to get ahold of Southwest and see what I could do to change my flight. I just knew there was no way I would be able to function on an hour or two of sleep and fly out at 6 am. Luckily, they were most accomodating and I was able to push my flight back to 10 am. Not so luckily, however, by this time I was also running a fever. We made it home and I spent the next 9 days laying on the couch, miserable, with bronchitis and a sinus infection.
And that brings us up to speed! I will try to keep the blog up better throughout the month of March!
